Meeting Great Grandma Westover

This last week, Brian's Grandma Westover and Aunt Barta came to Idaho for a funeral. They stayed with Layne and Kris in Idaho Falls. Brian and I drove up on Tuesday evening and stayed all day Wednesday. We were happy for the chance to see them and to introduce Connor to his Great Grandma.

It was a very quick trip, but we had a lot of fun. It was so great to see both Grandma and Barta, and we are so happy that Connor finally got to meet them. We spent our time visiting, and Connor was the star of the show. He loved all the attention.

We arrived fairly late in the evening on Tuesday. Some of Brian's aunts and uncles were there (Kim and Pam, Paul and Deniece). We were so happy that we got to spend some time with them, we don't get to see them often enough either. Connor was a bit shy around everyone at first, but soon warmed up and started wandering around the room, exploring his surroundings. He loves his Grandpa and Grandma Westover, and didn't need any time to warm up to them. He let Layne and Kris hold him right away. It makes my heart happy that he loves his grandparents, and that we live close enough that he can grow up around them.

The next morning Connor woke up happy as can be--his usual mood. He was in fine form all day, exploring the house and playing with the toys Kris found for him. He is such a curious little boy and so observant. It didn't take him long to catch on that the baby gate across the stairs was obstructing his access to a new area he hadn't explored yet. He spent a lot of time at the gate, trying to figure out how to get past it. We tried to keep him distracted so he wouldn't push it over and tumble down the stairs.

Kris pulled out some photo albums for us to look at while we were there. I loved getting to see pictures of Brian as a baby and as a little boy. It was really fun to look through each book, and listen to Layne, Kris, Barta, and Grandma tell stories. Kris also brought out Mike the Sheep, a stuffed animal that they'd had since Brian was a baby. Connor seemed to like Mike just fine, when he would hold sill long enough to notice him.

Connor also had a blast playing with Archie. He loved to walk and crawl after Archie, chasing him around the coffee table and through the kitchen. We loved listening to Connor's happy laughter and excited squeals as he tottered after Archie. Connor liked the chase more than the catch, and would back away each time Archie stopped or walked back to him. Connor was also fascinated by Archie's nose and tongue. He kept sticking his finger out and holding it up to Archie, reaching for his nose. Archie would sniff and then lick Connor's finger.

While we were all together, we took some pictures to commemorate the occasion. We don't get over to California to visit them very often, so the time we had with them was very special.

Four Generations

Brian loves his Grandma very much, and I've loved her since I first met her. She is a great and special lady. We are so grateful that we got this time with her, even though it wasn't nearly as long as we would've liked.
