Dallas - Day 7

This was our last testing day of the trip. We started off by driving up to an area called Flower Mound, which was actually part of Brian's mission as well. We were heading to a place called Ham N Eggs for breakfast. Brian had gone there once on his mission and the place made a lasting impression, because he really wanted to go there again.

Apparently the place is known for its gigantic proportions and is a favorite eating spot for players of the Dallas Cowboys. I just had a normal sized plate of cinnamon french toast. Brian ordered an omelet, with grits so that I could try them. I decided that I didn't really like grits. Alone they were very bland, but even with added condiments I didn't care for them. A biscuit came on the side of his meal. It was the biggest biscuit I had ever seen! We only ate one small corner of it between the two of us! We took the rest of the biscuit with us to nibble on throughout the day. We never did finish eating it.

While in Dallas we got to stop at the Temple. It reminded me a lot of the Boise, Idaho Temple. It is a very pretty Temple and the grounds were so peaceful.

This was Brian's temple on his mission and he said he got to come here a whole four times during the entire two years he served.

We ended up in a pretty swanky neighborhood for one of our tests. The houses where huge and I though that they were businesses or hotels until Brian told me otherwise. They were each sitting on large, well-manicured grounds with gates and walls surrounding the properties. We stopped at the nearby Bachman Park where we got to enjoy some water fowl. There was a swan swimming back and forth right by the bank. We got to walk right up to it and it didn't swim away. It was awesome to watch it swimming and nibbling on the plants along the bank.

We also ran into a pair of geese. They were so funny to watch waddle around and to listen to them honk. Brian got a little to close at one point and they hissed at him.

We had some great views of the city as we circled around it doing our testing.

We stopped by the Dallas Zoo for a test and found a GIANT giraffe out front. We had to drive across the nearby freeways to get a good picture of the entire statue.

We visited Westover Park. The park itself wasn't that great. The grass was dry and crunchy and the day was too hot to enjoy the area. There weren't that many trees planted there either. But it was fun to take photos by the sign.

One of our stops was in the parking lot of the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science. It was right next to the fairgrounds and we got to see the huge Ferris wheel they have there.

Our last stop was in downtown Dallas right by city hall. Driving in downtown Dallas was not bad at all because we were there way before rush hour. It was fun to get to see downtown Dallas a little bit before we left.

After testing was finished, we realized we had extra time on our hands. So we decided to drive back out to Fort Worth to re-visit the stockyards and see if we could get into any of the museums while they were still open. However, because of traffic and needing to stop for food, we didn't make it there in enough time to make going to the museums worth it. It was worth a try though. We got to walk around and see more of the area. We were entertained by the sign outside one of the Saloons.

We found some giant metal sculptures of spurs and a belt. You can see tiny Brian sitting on the belt in the picture below.

We were able to find a Christmas ornament in Fort Worth to add to our collection. I'm so excited to see all of our new ornaments hanging on our tree this year!

So our day in Dallas went smoothly with no problems testing. We didn't get to see anything really exciting that day, but it was nice anyways. After getting back to our hotel that night, we repacked our suitcase and got everything squared away for flying home the next day. Since we had to be up and moving extra early the next day, we went to bed early.

  1. That biscuit is hilarious. I love the photos of Dallas, too. I suppose when your name was Miller you often found other stuff with your name on it. Westover is a name that doesn't show up too often, so it was cool that you found the park.
