We spent Christmas this year with the Westover side of the family. We all met at Sean and Andrea's house in Arizona. We had a lot of fun and it was so great to have everyone together -- something that hadn't happened since Christmas of 2012.
Brian and I flew out on Christmas Eve. We booked our flight out of Newark, NJ in order to get cheaper plane tickets. That meant that we had to ride the subway to Penn Station, transfer to a train that took us to New Jersey, and then ride the airport's monorail just to get to our plane -- all while lugging along two heavy suitcases and our backpacks. It all ended up going smoothly, but by the time we got to the airport we felt a bit tired of traveling and we still had a 5 1/2 hour flight ahead of us. We were glad to check our bags and not have to deal with them anymore. The flight went by surprisingly quickly and finally we were in Phoenix.
Layne, Kris and Tom met us at the airport, where we grabbed our bags and loaded up to drive to Sean's house. It was so weird to see cacti, agave and palm trees decorated with Christmas lights as we drove through their neighborhood. We were so happy to be done traveling and were especially excited to see little Oliver and meet baby Faye. After eating dinner, catching up with everyone, and waiting for the kids to go to bed, we all brought out our presents and placed them under the tree. Once we were done playing Santa, Brian and I went to bed and fell asleep once our heads hit our pillows.
Christmas morning was wonderful. We woke up early and got settled in front of the Christmas tree before the kids came out. It was fun to watch Oliver come out and look at all the presents. Opening presents was so fun, especially getting to watch the kids open theirs.
The rest of the day was perfect. Between playing with the kids and helping to cook a delicious turkey dinner, we all spent the day lazily hanging out.
Tom was super thoughtful and got each of us a crazy t-shirt for Christmas. We had to get a group shot of the collective awesomeness.
A good time was had by all. It was so nice to be with family and take a break from New York City.
