We found out that you can go the night before and watch the balloons being blown up for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We are all about taking advantage of free events in the city, so this was put on our "Things to Do and See while in New York" list.
After Brian got off work, we took a subway up to Central Park West and 81st street. The closer we got to the event, the more packed the subway became. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get off at the right stop because our car was filled full of people. When we reached the right stop, and the doors opened, people flooded off the car! It took us twenty minutes to exit the subway station. It was wall to wall people! It wasn't horrible though, because everyone was excited and laughing and joking.
We finally got out of the subway station and up onto the street...and there were no balloons. Just lots and lots of people. We were in front of the Museum of Natural History at this point. We just merged into the flow of traffic and followed the crowd until we got to the right place. Eventually I could see through the balloons through the trees.

While we were looking at the Smurf balloon, a group of men came walking by. It was the Mayor of New York City and his security detail. Pretty cool that we've seen the mayor of NY. I didn't get a great picture of him because everyone went a little crazy trying to do the same thing.
After seeing all of the balloons we decided to walk for awhile to get away from the masses of people so we could take a less crowded subway home. While walking, we saw this festive hot dog cart! You can kind of see the lights strung around the top of it. It was such a fun night!
