Six Weeks

Connor turned 6 weeks old on January 10th. The biggest development he's made in the last couple of weeks is that he's begun to give us some real smiles. I was talking to him on January 2nd, and he smiled at me. A big old toothless grin. He was wide awake and reacted to what I was doing. It was the best thing in the world. It happened the day before Brian left for Vegas, so he spent the rest of the day trying to get Connor to smile again. The little stinker wouldn't do it though. Brian really didn't want to leave and miss his first smiles, but alas he had to go.

Since then, we've only been able to get him to smile a handful of times, but it's so worth the effort. He's such a serious little fellow, always intently watching something with his brow furrowed. So it's nice to be able to get him to smile. I haven't been able to catch one of his adorable full-on smiles in a picture yet, but we've caught him slightly grinning a few times.

Can you see his cute dimples above the corners of his lips?

He's still growing like a weed and gaining weight. I swear he feels heavier every day. He's started sucking on his hands randomly when he's awake and not hungry. He makes the cutest noises while doing this. Connor still likes to grab for our shirt collars when he's eating, and he's also started holding onto the bottle or our fingers as well. We've noticed that he especially likes to grasp and hold onto any part of our shirts that he can reach while we rock him to sleep. He's started putting his forearm against his pacifier when chewing on it to help hold it in place. When the pacifier falls out he turns his head and tries vigorously to get it back in his mouth. His eyes are still such a dark blue, and I love feeding him because he just looks up at me and makes eye contact the entire time. I always wonder what he's thinking.

He loves spending time laying on a blanket on the floor. He just kicks and wiggles his heart out. As soon as we set him down he's waving his arms and legs around like crazy. He also still likes to stretch out, although he doesn't to the four-limb lift-stretch-and-hold as much as he used to.

Connor isn't a fan of tummy time and immediately works his way onto his back whenever we lay him down on his stomach. Seriously, we have to keep turning him back over every minute or so. He still holds his head up the majority of the time we hold him up on our shoulder. His neck muscles are getting stronger, and even though his head still wobbles and we have to be ready to provide a supporting hand, he's getting better at steadily holding it up by himself for longer periods of time.

Kris snapped this picture while she was here.

Our newest nicknames for him are little bug, bug, or buggy--shortened of course from cutie-bug or wiggle-bug. He really loves his daddy, and whenever he hears Brian's voice, he immediately turns his head to try and find him. Watching those two together just melts my heart.

One of the greatest things in the world is cuddling with him while he sleeps. He doesn't seem to mind it either. He is so warm and snugly. I love when he's just zonked and his arms go limp and his face completely relaxes. His cheeks and lips get especially squishy and he makes the cutest faces. He still sleeps with either one or both hands by his face, and often times will prop his head up on one of his hands or arms.

Six weeks in and we still can't get enough of this little guy. He's just too amazing and adorable.
