Monday the 13th we headed down to the lower end of Manhattan to City Hall. We didn't get any good pictures of the actual City Hall building. There was construction going on and it was covered in scaffolding. But from what we could see, it was a pretty building. The grounds around it were nice also.
This is the Tweed Courthouse building nearby. Sorry the picture is skewed, but in order to get it all in the shot we had to take it this way. The streets are all so narrow and lined with buildings that you can't get far enough away from it to get the whole thing in a shot. It is a huge building with lots of stairs. I love the columns.
This is the Manhattan Municipal Building. It's SO big. I know, I say that about everything. But it is.
This is the base of the Municipal building...again really big. You can walk clear through the building to the other side.
There is a little park on the other side and past that is One Police Plaza, the NYPD headquarters.
I'm not sure what this building was, maybe one of the federal courthouses. I just loved how big and grand it was.
Top of said building. "The true administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good government."
This is the United States Courthouse next door. It's so crazy, all of these huge buildings surrounding you.
This little plaza in the midst of the buildings is where we stopped for a piece of pizza. It was around five o'clock when they were closing and we got our food on the house. The guy was very nice and said that they had had a good day and that we didn't have to pay. I like New York.
Big funky statue in the middle of the plaza. They have so many fountains and sculptures around the city. Very cool.
So we then headed to Chinatown, because Brian had spent the whole morning online trying to find some cheap Chinese food. When we got off the subway and up onto the street, it was pouring rain! But since he had his heart and stomach set on the food, we pressed on. Yes, ten blocks in a complete downpour for noodles and dumplings. We stopped and found an umbrella for $3, but it was small. I tried to share it with him, but our height differences made it awkward to walk together. So being the gentleman, (or stubborn, take your pick), he refused to use it and let me take it. At least it was warm, but he got soaked. Here is a picture of him enjoying his food. The dumplings and noodles ended up only costing $3.50 total, so he was very happy...and wet.
Those noodles do look good -- but free pizza is even better!
