Charlie Brown Tree

This year Brian and I bought our first real Christmas Tree. It is the tiniest of trees, but it has filled our apartment with that wonderful fresh Christmas pine scent. I love it!

We don't have a lot of space in our apartment, so we got a small, table-top tree. Granted there were some lovely four foot trees that were much nicer and probably would have fit in our apartment just fine, but they were also more expensive. Being poor and frugal, we went for the least expensive. The guy that we bought it from was teasing us about how we were going to get it home. Brian managed just fine. He tucked it under his arm and off we went. Our tree was especially nice when we were walking up the four flights of stairs to our apartment.

We needed a stand for the tree, so we got the smallest one we could find. The stand cost about as much as the tree! At least we can keep the stand for future use. The stand was a bit big so we had to wrap a strip of cardboard around the trunk (more like a branch) of our tree to bulk it out so the screws could hold it in place.

The night that we decorated it, we only had four lonely ornaments to hang on the tree. Brian and I buy a Christmas ornament every time we visit a new place. We had gotten ornaments from the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Empire State Building. Layne and Kris gave us an ornament from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to add to our collection. These are the only ornaments we have here with us. The rest of our stuff is back in Idaho. It looked really pathetic.

So this morning I went shopping at the local dollar store and found some small glass balls and a star to add to the tree. I think it brightened things up considerably. We definitely are making memories of our first Christmas alone in Queens. I think we'll always remember this little guy!
