Emergency Room Visit

Yesterday was the most eventful Sunday we've had in...well ever! We have been called to be ward missionaries and have to attend a correlation meeting right after church. We were there and waiting for the meeting to start when the ward mission leader showed up with a pan of brownies and a knife. He told us to help ourselves, so of course Brian jumps up to get some. The guy had forgotten to grease the pan so the brownies were very stuck to the bottom.

In the course of trying to pry a brownie out of the pan with a butter knife, Brian managed to gouge himself between the index and middle finger. I didn't think it was that bad at first, and neither did he. He went to the bathroom to get a paper towel and wash the cut out. The next thing I know, he is back in the room holding a blood soaked piece of paper towel to his hand.

The room where we meet is right next to the Bishop's office, and most of the ward was down there milling around still. So of course everyone wanted to know what happened. Two first aid kits were found, and the Young Men's President put rubber gloves on and bandaged him up.

The cut ended up being fairly deep, so we decided it was probably a good idea to take him into a hospital. Another guy in the ward volunteered to drive us there so we wouldn't have to ride the subway. We got to the ER and 45 minutes later Brian comes out with his hand looking like this.

He ended up not needing stitches. They just glued the cut together with their special super glue stuff and then taped his first two fingers together. He has to keep his fingers taped for a couple of days and he can't get his hand wet. He also had to get a tetanus shot.

When we got home yesterday the first thing he did was pull out the fudge I had made and start chipping away at it the same way he had done with the brownies! I quickly took the knife from him and asked him what he was doing. He said that he hadn't gotten a brownie. I told him to go sit down and to stay away from knives for awhile. Good grief! One hospital visit was enough for me.

We're glad that it wasn't more serious. He is doing fine today. It aches every so often, and his arm hurts from the tetanus shot, but other than that I think he'll survive!
